Day 15
Options expiry date today and it will hurt me. My experience with options has been so so. To me its pretty much like a gamble and I think unless I test new strategies with different contexts, I should stay away for the moment. All week long I was chasing a stock down (NVDA) and I lost big time. It affected my whole week performance. My first strategy is still profitable and I should stick to it. Like this morning again. Made a few gains to soothe the pain of losing with my options.
What I did:
Bought 400 shares of HTHT at market price of 39$. Sold it immediately at 39.50$. I also open another position in SNAP before definitively change my mind about options. Averaged down my NIO position because its at new 52 Low. My 4 open positions are at least one month long and I will not open new position unless I come out with a better strategy than just trying to bet on stock's direction. Did some research on Crude oil and I bought a call on UCO for a quick win.
P/L: - 420 USD
Open positions:
1 april NVDA put 150 (-67 USD)
3 april SNAP call 12 (-14USD)
2 april CRM put 140 (-52 USD)
3 june NIO call 7 (-95 USD)
5 april call UCO 21 (0 USD)
Lesson 21: No more straight guess options trading. I might try a different strategy. Since I am playing the earnings, I will try testing long strangle strategies.
Portfolio value:
P/L of the week : -92 USD
Open P/L: -228 USD
TOTAL : 31,007 USD (3,35% up from beginning)
